Graham Horobetz–Positional Studies from the Music City Open

Games from the 2022 Music City Openhttps://www.uschess.org/msa/XtblMain.php?202212119372.1-12800231

#1–Answer to Chess Advocate's page 63 Left Viewer Screen:

White: Graham Horobetz, Black: Manuel Garcia Jr, White to move and win.

12.f3, if, as in the game, 12...Nc5, 13.c4 then traps the Black Queen.

#2–Answer to Chess Advocate's page 63 Right Viewer Screen:

White: Alex Fishbein, Black: Graham Horobetz, Black to move and draw.

40...Raxe3 creates a perpetual check situation. If Black captured with the other Rook,
40...Rexe3 then White can play a move like 41.Ra7 (threatening mate with either
42.Ra8 or 42.Rh8) and Black has no perpetual check.
